and missouri. >> massachusetts scott brown and elizabeth warren has turned out to be the weirdest race in the country. >> don't understand why he went after this issue and so far has not backed down. he's still talking about what she did or did not say about her own ethnic heritage. >> this was an issue earl hi on in the campaign. scott brown went early very hard against elizabeth warren on the basis of race. and while it got a lot of national attention, sort of everything he does gets national attention. sort of a darling of the beltway media and so he gets a lot of attention for what he does. he got a lot of press for it but didn't get any movement in the polls. polling pretty well and consistently throughout and then he took a dive. she gave that well received speech to the democratic convention polls generally turned even more strongly toward the democrats he ended up losing in four straight polls in massachusetts and then all of a sudden he's put her race back as the main reason to vote against her. he has never disproven that she is native american. he says essentially look at he

. >> bill: exactly. the story this morning about massachusetts -- scott brown seems to think the number one issue up there is painting elizabeth warren as native american. of course, she helped maybe create that issue, but is this the issue that is going to help him win? >> i think this is the beginning of a long campaign that he is going to run. the fact fors on the ground all argue in warren's favor. there are going to be -- >> bill: democratic registration -- >> exactly 7 or 8,000 new voters who didn't vote for scott brown back in the special election in 2010, because they just didn't come out to vote. now he has to do something to undermine her credibility. at the moment the polls are showing elizabeth warren on a pretty strong rise. so scott brown has to do something to change this race. and i think elizabeth warren demonstrated it is an issue of concern for her. she herself went up with a response ad hours after scott brown did, which tells me they believe that is something of concern. >> bill: yeah. and she had addressed it before, but she can't take any c

hours. i'm in such a hurry to tell you the news. there is a story bubbling up with the scott brown campaign still going on. his own campaign staffers can be seen on the video making tomahawk chop gestures and make native war advice to elizabeth warren's cherokee defense. brown has not confirmed or denied it but here's what he said. >> this is the first time i'm hearing of it, but i know we had a lot of rallies. so i don't know what you're specifically referring to, but if you're saying that, certainly that's not something i condone. it's somethingly something that if i am aware of ill, i'll check into it. but the real issue here is and the real offense is the fact that professor warren checked the box. she said that she was white, and then she checked the box saying she was native american and then she changed her profile in the law directly once she attained her tenure. that's quite offensive to native americans and something that she should release in her records. >> doubled down in a commercial and i for the live of me can't figure out why they're debating this in massachusetts

the fact that brokers in virginia had elected a republican. in massachusetts, the scott brown race was effectively a referendum on obamacare. and yet this president and nancy pelosi and harry reid rammed it through. >> the question -- if you were elected, do you want these benefits that hundreds of thousands of texans now have -- to do what been taken away? >> that is not exactly right. i support as a dividend health care reform. >> the lot of the land is in the books. do you want to have it taken away? >> you cannot talk about half without the other half. the other half -- i think health care reform should follow if you principals. number one, it should expand competition in the marketplace. number two, it should empower patients and disempower government bureaucrats. let me give you three specific reforms -- one, allow people to purchase health insurance across state lines. that would create a true 50- state national marketplace for health insurance. for example, talking about children under 26 being on the apparent policy. if we get a true national marketplace for of insurance,

tougher is that polls show republicans do risk losing two of their own seats. scott brown's in massachusetts. and the one left open in maine by retiring u.s. senator olympia snowe. now, the key according to republican strategists i talked to is not losing those republican seats. but they also say that that is going to be very difficult. and if they don't keep those republican seats, they really are going to have to run the board on the tossup seats now held by democrats. and they say that is going to be a big, big challenge. >> and also a big, big challenge is something a lot of people are talking about is romney and maybe his trouble in some of these key states and how that could potentially hurt down ballot. what are you hearing? >> republican sfrat strategists who i talk to who are in charge of taking control of the senate say it is a problem. especially when you look at wisconsin, virginia and even ohio where mitt romney is simply not doing as well on the presidential level. they think it is really dragging down their candidates. in the words of one source i talked to,
